Number of Seeds Per Pack: 10,000--> 10,400 + seeds=10gUses: CulinaryNotes: Culantro, also known as Thai Parsley, is the plant most similar to Cilantro in flavor and used by many South American countries as well as in Asia and the Caribbean even more frequently than Cilantro. Culantro (Eryngium Foetidum) is known as Recao in Puerto Rico, Long Coriander in Asia and Culantro in Mexico is known as Mexican Coriander. Great in soups, beans, salsas and stews. Leaves can also be clipped and used fresh or frozen to keep their fresh flavor. Cilantro is rich in iron, carotene, riboflavin and calcium with a strong, pungent flavor.Tips on growing CulantFirst bear in mind thatCulantro likes the shade and will not survive Full Sun. Also it loves moisture NOTwetness!Be patient. Some seedstake longer to germinate than others. The average germination time forculantro is anywhere from 25 to 40 days, although I have see someone seedlingsgerminate in as little as 14 days by maintaining the substrate temperaturebetween 75-80°F (24-27°F) with the use of a heating mat, a 3.5" tallhumidity dome, and a thermostat (too much heat is no good for culantro'sgermination, though)Theplants should be set out after the danger of frost has passed. Transplantsshould be spaced 4 - 6 inches within the row and no closer than 6 inches apartbetween the rows. It is recommended to use the same fertility you would use forleafy greens. When culantro beginsto produce flowers, the leaves become tough and less suitable for eating. Theharvest is achieved by cutting the entire rosette at soil level. The flowerstalks must be pruned regularly in order to maintain vegetative growth andmaximize yields.Dealing with Slugs and Snails........Ifanyone has slug or snail problems they need to put out slug & snail baitaround the planted area. The slugs and snails love these plants and theyalso love to eat Cilantro especially when they are just sprouts. Theywill eat the leaves of the mature plants leaving holes in them. I'veraised culantro since 1984 and have them where they catch the morning sun andis very moist. These are the areas that the slugs and snails thrive in soyou need to be aware of this. My plants were getting very thin and thenew plants didn't seem to be growing and then I remembered about the slugs inthis place and when I had put the bait out I was very surprised on how manyslugs that were in my herbs. Now mynew plants are growing again andI should have a nice area again. The slug bait I used is Bug Geta or I boughtthe slug bait from Wal Mart it either comes in pellets or powder. I likethe pellets better s ince it lasts a lot longer.Thegermination and growing of seed depends upon many factors of which your skillsas a grower in the following areas with respect to germination arecritical.{Seed storage, preparation, planting time, temperature, light, depth andcompost moisture}. Once seed is germinated other factors continue to beessential to grow a healthy plant including, "Type of" and diseasefree soil, watering, correct fertilizer, fungicide & insecticide usage andabove all "Fair Weather Conditions". No responsibility is taken by usas to your local conditions being suitable for the varieties ultimateperformance. With the above factors in mind which are by no means exhaustive, the seed germination and growing of, is completely & totally out of ourcontrol and as such we accept no responsibility on these counts. It,s over toyou the customer..Our seed comes to you of Thee highest quality & puritypossible.
